Survive Google Penguin Updates and Bring Back the Traffic to Your Website Posted: 09 Oct 2012 12:53 AM PDT Google Penguin is the solution that addresses the only flaw of Google. For a long time, Google has been incessant in finding ways on how to detect and penalize websites that utilize black hat SEO techniques. The solution finally arrived on April 24, 2012; Google released Google Penguin. Its aim is to bring even more reliable search hits to Google SERP. Whether you like it or not, Google Penguin is here to StaySince Google Penguin roll-out, many websites have been diced. Those websites with duplicate or weak content and those that went through over – optimization were not spared too. It penalized sites by de-ranking them which led to traffic decrease. Google Penguin Broke my Heart! As a webmaster, it totally broke my heart when I have all of my 8 websites affected because of the updates. I admit that I am to blame. I took advantage of black hat SEO before just to rank my websites. I did link farming and never focused on natural SEO. For months, I have been truly depressed because of what happened to my sites. Until now, I am still on the phase of development process. Here are the things I try to do which they say are effective strategies in order to recover from Google penguin. How to Recover from Google Penguin Updates?1. Stop Over – Optimization Before, it is imperative to do all kinds of SEO techniques in order to rank on Google's first pages per targeted keyword but since Penguin, all went back to its original norm which is Content is King! The content of your website will determine the ranking of your site; make sure your backlinks are just right for Google might flag your website due to violation of Webmaster's Guidelines. Since Penguin, I stopped using softwares that over – optimizes my websites such as social monkee, BMR and social ADR. 2. Avoid anything Paid! (Link Farming,Auto-Indexing Etc) I am totally guilty of having link farming services even if Google made it clear even before I knew about SEO that it is prohibited to practice unhealthy SEO. If you want to climb upwards, avoid paid links! 3. Make sure your Anchor text are Natural Again, I am guilty as hell with this one. I always link exact short tail keywords to pages of my sites which resulted to boost in ranking and traffic at the same time. But since Penguin, only relevant anchor texts with quality content were counted. If you want to rank, make sure that whatever linked to your website is relevant using the appropriate long tail keyword. 4. Social Sharing is Important I never prioritize the use of social sharing and probably, it is the ultimate mistake I have committed! I focused on writing articles and article directory submission. I totally ignored the rapid rise of social media popularity such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Google+. People love social media and where do they post worthwhile websites? They share them through social networking sites! Establish a strong relation on Facebook and Twitter and you'll surely receive quality traffic. Google Penguin is actually not the bad guy!At first, I was really furious when I checked all of the traffic and ranking drop of my 8 websites. But when I scrutinized the intent of Google Penguin, I discovered that it just rises the standard of search queries and it is up to us (Webmasters) to keep up by keeping everything natural and white hat. |
