Back in 2007, Nokia was the best mobile phone company and everyone praised Nokia cell phones and their durability. At that time, it was only office, desktops and laptops where people were able to do their work related tasks. There were no android phones and people who could afford and needed it, used blackberry phones for work purposes. On 29th June, 2007, Apple released its first iPhone and ever since then, there has been no looking back. iPhone was worth $600, which was pretty expensive for that time but still people loved it. However, it was only treated as a luxury and not everyone could afford iPhone.

Today, after five years, we can feel the huge impact iPhone has made on our daily lives. Just a day before Apple announced the date to launch to iPhone 5 which has been waited anxiously around the world. iPhone’s impact can hardly be undermined as it is being used by professionals, students, doctors, engineers and anyone you name. Now that iPhone 5 release date is approaching, let us take a look at 5 ways through which iPhone has changed our lives.

  1. A fresh method of interacting with computers:

By 2007, people were used to numerical keypads and physical keyboards. iPhone came up with something totally different, innovative and interesting. It introduced a whole new 'touch' system which had a screen keyboard only and there were no numerical or physical keyboards. This should be called a classic move indeed by Apple as it brought a lot of people towards technology. People who were not tech savvy took interest in iPhone and they could use it only with the help of finger tips. From kids to elderly to teenagers and professionals, everyone knew how to use iPhone.

Yes, many reviewers did complaint about the absence of physical keyboard however; consumers did not complaint about it all. iPhone lovers were very happy with the way it was designed because millions of were sold within three months. Yes, typing speed was not as effective as on Nokia and Blackberry but still, it had other features such as spell check and cut/paste. Apple also introduced the siri-voice assistant feature and the main purpose of this feature was to help apple perform by listening to user's command instead of tapping.

  1. There is an 'App' for everything:

iPhone's USP was its killer and expensive glass touch screen. At the same time, iPhone's operating system and App store made it a bigger hit because introduction of Apps was another innovative thing by Apple. In 2007 Apple only had a few in-built apps for checking weather, emails, calendars and other basic stuff. However, in 2008, apps store was released and people went crazy about it because they could find hundreds of interesting apps developed by third parties. It looked like iPhone has an app for almost everything. This thing became a huge hit due to Apple's TV commercials as well and the tagline 'there's an app for that' turned out to be a catchy one.

There has been a proper approval system for apps before they are put it app store in order to avoid apps with spam and virus. Apple had every right to reject any app.

  1. Internet availability:

iPhone introduced a new age for internet usage as well and it encouraged the concept of being online and using internet 24/7.  There are different views regarding if it was a good or bad thing but it definitely made communication easy. With iPhone, users' had many ways to contact each other for instance, SMS, emails, Facebook, Twitter, foursquare and what not. iPhone's browser was way too good in comparison with the browsers of other smartphones. On viewing a webpage on iPhone's browser it looked almost exactly the same as any desktop webpage.  Such features brought a sort of mobile and internet addiction in all iPhone users. Many iPhone lovers claim that their iPhone is the last thing they see before going to sleep and first thing to see as they wake up.

  1. Supple-chain activism:

Due to such great features, Apple became one of the largest companies in the world. As soon as it grew, Apple had to expand its manufacturing chain due to which it was pushed to greater limits. Although, it brought a controversy to apple's way as well. The Foxconn plants which were located in China and produced Apple's products, was called out in press for their not so good working conditions long hours and low remuneration.

Due to this controversy, Apple stopped its production through Foxconn plant and focused more on electronics supply chains. Even after such controversies, iPhone remained in demand. Many mobile companies worked hard on improving their operating systems after iPhone's launch because of the pressure of increasing iphone's popularity.

  1. Innovative Genre of mobiles:

iPhone did effect the popularity of Blackberry but at the same time it introduced a whole new genre of mobile phones. After the launch iPhone, Google created and launched its own operating system which is known as Android and is quite popular as well. Also, as we all can see, the biggest mobile companies are coming up with touchscreen phones.

After iPhone's and iPod's success, Apple launched iPad which is obviously the most popular tablet these days. Big companies such as Google, Microsoft and Amazon are working on releasing new and improved tablets to give a tough competition to iPad.

It would be unfair if we do not mention iPhone as a gaming device. Everyone knows the very famous 'Angry birds' and other gaming apps. iPhone gave birth to an entire new era of mobile gaming.

Ever since the launch of iPhone, we have seen technology world evolving constantly. Let's see if something shakes up the technology again in another five years to come, just like iPhone did.
