Which Tools Do Webmasters Use For Traffic Analysis?

Posted: 31 Mar 2012 04:25 AM PDT

It’s a question asked for any webmaster: which tools do webmasters use for tracking website analytics? There are many to choose from, but there are few of those that offer detailed statistics of what your visitors want and how they are coming to your website. Using the simplest tool, you’re missing the chance of seeing an exact estimate of those visits. Here are a few tools used to monitor website campaigns and how to make sure your visitors are being accounted.

QuickTagger

Before using analysis tools, take the time to learn about InMotion Hosting’s QuickTagger tool. It’s a browser bookmarklet for tracking many campaigns and a way to account for every link on your website or social media hub. When you use the bookmarklet on the page, QuickTagger adds an attribute suffix of the link to use for tracking on web analysis tools, and allows for customization for a certain need. This way you can see which link performs better, even through “short URLs,” without missing a visitor’s click. After utilizing the tool, you can then integrate them into other analysis tools.

Google Analytics

Google Analytics is the best web analysis tool available for a no-cost alternative to other programs already available. It has seen improvements over the years and have recently added tools already found in premium analytic software. However, using Google Analytics can still benefit those who prefer to use another solution for better monitoring of Google’s integrative web products.

With QuickTagger, you can track your customized URL by setting up a campaign by going to Traffic Sources, followed by Sources, and then Campaigns. You can see how your link is performing on social media networks, or it can be customized to view results from alternative social networks and search results.

Woopra

Woopra is another popular traffic and campaign analytic tool for premium users. It features a unique in-depth user behavior tracker, such as who is viewing your website in real-time and which links were clicked during the session. This can be a good way to strategize your content to target to like users. It also shows, as with other web analytic tool, the country, state, city, IP address, browser, ISP, and previous visits to the website. If the user happens to be another Woopra user, it displays their avatar, name, and email address. However, Woopra has four tiers of service available for a fee from small to large, but it can be used for free in turn of supported ads for Woopra itself and a limit of 30,000 views per month.

Clicky

Another great tool for webmasters is GetClicky, or simply Clicky. It behaves just like Google Analytics and Woopra, but there are some limitations when it comes to campaign tracking. Clicky is another premium tool for traffic analysis, although it can be a tool for webmasters working with lighter web applications. The free version is limited to 3,000 page views, but it can be valuable if used on low traffic websites with the intent of attracting double the limit of views. For serious webmasters, the premium version provides the tools needed to monitor goals and campaigns. This is also one of the few and growing services that provide mobile support for tracking statistics away from a computer.

Though there are other alternatives, a look at these three tools is just the start of what to expect from the best traffic analysis software for managing social networking campaigns. Importantly, learning about tools like QuickTagger gives you more insight into how statistic tracking is done via URL attributes, even to those who know the basics.
