Facebook Launches Collections Test, Part II

Facebook launched the second phase of its test of the Collections feature Wednesday, adding some new retail partners to the mix and testing five open graph actions: want, save, add, collect, and wishlist. The social network said this phase of testing is aimed at understanding how users are interacting with and sharing items from collections in their news feeds, adding that much like during its first test, users will only see one... read more>>

Should Facebook Move Forward With Autoplay Video Ads?

On Tuesday, a report detailed that Facebook is planning to implement 15-second video advertisements that automatically play - an effort to grab television ad dollars. The reaction around the Internet was swift and negative, criticizing the social network for being too invasive by making the ads play instantly, forcing users to push pause or stop. But how effective are video ads in the first place? Video posts from pages and brands are... read more>>

Rumblings of a Facebook external ad network, where ads gathered by social data show up on sites outside of the social network, sent waves throughout the Internet. But a report from AllThingsD notes that while Facebook may still be working on such a network, it won't be coming on mobile - at least not yet. Because of a law passed in 1988, U.S. Facebook users have been unable to share their Netflix viewing data - much like they do for Spotify or other applications that utilize open graph technology. However, the U.S. House of Representatives passed legislation recently to change this, allowing video-rental companies to get consent from their customers to share their preferences online. Previously, the Video Privacy Protection Act (VPPA) prevented the sharing of information... read more>>

A browser extension known as F.B. Purity is apparently impure when it comes to Facebook's terms of service, as its developer claims to have been banned from the social network. We wrote about F.B. Purity in September 2011, saying: F.B. Purity, short for "Fluff-Busting Purity," helps Facebook users filter out application spam (such as game notifications and quizzes) and select which boxes they want displayed on the right-hand side of their homepages, as... read more>>

The Facebook analytics provider said the change will be rolled out to all pages, with no way to opt out, but posts by users will be unaffected.
