| Manage your own secure private server with Sitelier Posted: 18 Aug 2012 07:59 PM PDT Sitelier review Sitelier is an operating system for the social web where users can store their online content, personal logins, and install web apps without having to agree to abusive terms and conditions endangering people’s privacy, the apps can be used to share files and communicate with others, friends and companies. Sitelier uses OpenPGP to link users with their apps and their contacts. After a user is created Sitelier creates a globally unique cryptographic identity used to establish secure relationships with apps and other users, the identity isn’t tied up to any domain name and can be moved around, instead of storing your personal data on someone elses server’s, e.g. Yahoo, the user owns and controls the server where data is stored, including username and passwords. ![]() Sitelier secure website Because each user has it’s own server, mass phishing scams would not be possible as they would have to be personalized including the unique URL for each victim. A secure messaging system to communicate with Sitelier apps limits who can send messages, whitelisting financial organisations for example, would also stop wanna be scammers from sending fraudulent messages. Sitelier is open source and does not tie you up to any vendor software, data can be easily ported and the code reviewed for quality. This is a meritable project that places people’s privacy into their own hands instead of a multinational, unfortunately I can not foresee big data mining companies like Google or Facebook ever agreeing to implement a Sitelier app to log into their sites. |
