iOS 6 vs Android ICS 4.0 vs Windows Phone 7.5 Mango- A Comparison

Posted: 14 Jun 2012 04:57 AM PDT

It would not be wrong to say that iOS, Android and WP7.5 are the leading players in the mobile market today. RIM continues to slip away from the race and it has come to the point they are not usually deemed good enough to be even put up for a comparison.

There have been numerous battles that have seen different winners when picking from these three well known mobile platforms. However, it would be great if we can stack all these three operating systems one against the other and then see which one do we prefer. Our friends at Redmondpie have put up a brilliant head to head of these three popular Operating Systems. So have a look and judge for yourself which you deem to suit your need the most:

It is an extremely interesting comparisons as you can one OS is better than another for one feature while the other is better in another category. it definitely would be a dream scenario if all these three could be magically combined into one OS. Yes, that day maybe we all tech nerds might be satisfied.

What is your opinion on all these three Operating Systems? Which one do you prefer? Do let us know in the comments section below.

Watch iOS Applications Running On Blackbery PlayBook

Posted: 14 Jun 2012 02:10 AM PDT

When the playbook was launched by Blackberry we saw the raw potential the device had. In fact many called it as a real tough competitor to the Apple iPad.  the real time multi tasking and things such as a very handy 7 inch screen size made for a very interesting tablet. However, with RIM pretty much stalling the developments and its in ability to add new stuff, Playbook has become rather frustrating. Recently we saw RIM add official support for android applications but that has failed to bring the sort of response RIM thought it would.

So, some of the developers have now started to take things into their own hands. one of such developers called Businesscat2000 has ported and run iOS applications on the Playbook. This is first of its kinds, and here is how it works in the developers own words:

“It works very similarly to how WINE works to run Windows applications on Linux. The app binary is mapped into memory and imports are resolved to point to my own implementation of the various APIs needed. iOS actually uses a few open APIs already, which Playbook supports just as well (GL ES, and OpenAL). The bulk of the work has been in implementing all of the objective C classes that are required. The ARM code of the applications run as-is – the armv6/v7 support on PB/iDevices are pretty much identical, and the code is designed to run in USR mode”

You can watch the playbook in action here:

As you can see the application runs full screen and without any glitches at all. It just may open a new door of opportunities for the owners of Blackberry Playbook. Do let us know your comments on it.

Smart Screen On Lets You Lock Your Android Screen Using Proximity Sensor

Posted: 14 Jun 2012 12:28 AM PDT

Proximity sensors are thing we all are very well aware of on our smart phones. They are small circular sensors located on top of your device right next to the ear piece. The sensor is responsible for various things such as switching the display off when you are on call and conserve battery or even for automatic back lighting which is responsible for adjusting the display brightness to suit your location. However, finally a developer has come up with a new use of the proximity sensor. We are talking of the application Smart Screen On.

The useful application is developed by the XDA developer DDeleted and lets you use the proximity sensor to turn your display of the smartphone off. It is extremely handy for those who do not wish to use the power button every time or have faulty power on/off buttons onboard. The application is extremely simple to use, all you have to do is tap or wave across the proximity sensor of your device and the phone would lock the screen. this is extremely handy for phones that have big screens such as the Galaxy Nexus or Galaxy Note or even the Galaxy SIII. You have a bunch of settings that can be customized whether the phone reads the tap or just the wave. You can also configure whether the application should be started right when the device is booted up or you wish to do it only when you wish to.

The only exceptional device to this application so far is the HTC Desire HD ecause the proximity sensor according to the developer does not work how it should. So if you are using the Desire HD hard luck. The application does have a lite version too on the play store but we highly recommend you to pay the premium amount which is just above $1 since it’s totally worth it.

You can download the app here on the play store and if you feel this application is awesome like we do, head over to XDA and say a thanks to the developer here.

Max Payne Is Now Available For Android

Posted: 14 Jun 2012 12:08 AM PDT

If you have been a kid growing up in the late 90s and the 2000′s, you would most likely have played the popular PC and then PS game Max Payne. If not played, am sure you must have heard about the game from a friend or seen someone play it or heard about it being played. Simply put it is one of the most popular gaming titles on the planet. The popular game is now available for those who are using Android Smart phones. So now if you have a fast processor device with Tegra 3 such as One X or a Transformer Prime, you are about to land a gaming experience like never before.

The graphics on board are absolutely phenomenal. Rockstar has indeed done a terrific job with the game and made sure it stands easily at the top of the queue of action games on Android. The big issue with all the goodness added to the game is that you require to download about 1.5 GB of data as game files in order to enjoy the game, which if you are not on Wi-Fi would consume almost your entire data plan. That is why it is highly recommended that you use Wi-Fi when installing the game and running it for the first time. The story of the game remains pretty much the same where Max Payne is an agent trying to get hold of Drug peddlers. The cinematics, cut shots and little movies in the game play add a lot of realism to the game. If you have never played a Max Payne title before either, you would have no problem in following the story.

The gameplay needless to say looks stunning. It is a mix of in game graphics and terrific screen resolution and capabilities of the Tegra 3 processor on the Transformer Prime where we saw the game. The controls are a little tough which can be learned through thorough tutorials but the physics on the game really show off the extremely good capabilities of the Tegra 3.

The game can be bought for a meager $3 which is totally worth the amount for a fantastic gaming experience. it is just about as good as it will get on handheld devices. Here is the download link for the game: Rockstar Games

Here is the demo of the game:
